Golf Lessons: Practical Techniques To Learn Effectively The First Time

Golf Lessons: Practical Techniques To Learn Effective Ways The First Time

For anyone who wants to learn the secrets of golf there are lots of lessons and instructors out there.

Special golf schools organize golf lessons for beginners all year round for groups of fifteen to twenty people. Recently it has become a great business practice to send members of a staff to these lessons in order to achieve both some team building and interpersonal goals. Or you may just want to simply take advantage of it while on vacation at the hotel where you are staying. Your concierge will most assuredly have a resource for golf while you are there.

And then there is the plethora of Golf Instructors out there and my oh my who do you choose. All you have to do is open up any golf magazine or do an internet search and you will find one. You have those who specialize in just about every area of the game of golf that there is. From Beginners to Tour Players, from putting to the mental side of the game. There are even guru’s to the guru’s. But I won’t say anything more on the guru thing…grin

What it all really boils down to is finding the PGA or LPGA Professional that you are most comfortable with. So lets get into some practical techniques that will help you along.

What type of Learner are you? Visual, Audio, or Kinesthetic (feel)? Studies show that you are a combination of two of the three. Though for most of us all three are in play at the same time.

Blind People and sight impaired learn by Audio – Kinesthetic.
Deaf People and hearing impaired learn by Visual – Kinesthetic
And the rest of us learn by Visual – Audio or Visual – Kinesthetic

Personally I am a Visual – Kinesthetic And I am slightly hearing impaired, have been since childhood but I am far from deaf. If I can see it and I can feel it, I can learn it much faster than any other way. Even though I knew I learned better that way as a kid. I didn’t understand that aspect of learning and find that out until I was in my late 20’s and man was it a revelation.

Here is one of those gems in learning I am always talking about. A good thing for you to do, would be to find out how you are at learning, and then when you do find an instructor, let him know how you learn best.

In this way you are actually learning in your optimal state. So how do you find out how you learn best. Tinker and play with it. Get someone to teach you something you don’t know at all. when you are struggling with a certain point of it, listen to what your saying either out loud or to yourself.

Hearing words like, “I’m not feeling it” = kinesthetic, or, “I just don’t see it” = visual, or, “I hear what your saying but” = audio. these are all keys to how you or anyone else learns. Just make sure that it’s not your ego talking. Our minds have a funny way of not liking change, it will play tricks with us in the attempt to keep things the way they are.

Oliver Wendell Holmes once said “One’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.” But the Anonymous Pessimist said “The headache I got from expanding my mind could have been done without” In either case here, if you didn’t have the knowledge of the different learning styles before, then now you do and you now have a new idea.

In short what I am saying is the fastest way to learn something is to find out your own learning pattern and then Exploit it for you own success.

As always, Hit em long and straight and as few times as possible, happy golfing and Have a Great Day.
