Perfect Swing

Moe Norman was undeniably one of the greatest ball striker’s to ever live, or at least the most accurate one.   Readers Digest did an article on him titled “Man with the Perfect Swing”.  Numerous books and countless other articles have also been written about him.  And the Golf Channel did a long standing multi-segmented expose’ on him.

Having the honor and privilege to spend time with Moe, I was privy to gain an understanding on the man that many discounted. Moe was not only an absolute genius, but one of the gentle men I even met!  If Moe liked you he would give you the shirt of his back. Sadly, I wish I would have had the opportunity to spend more time with him than I was able to, but I am grateful for the time I was granted and my memories will always be there.

Moe personified perfection of the golf swing, living with full intent on accomplishing two things, living life in the positive, and hitting the perfect shot, not just once, but time and time again.  Always looking at the positive and yet being logical at the same time, anyone could see that he had built a swing he could rely on. Moe could do wonderful things with a golf club and golf ball. Almost always hitting frozen ropes, I remember watching him hit balls once and he was so entranced that as he was hitting balls, he focused upon hitting the last ball he hit with ball he was hitting. 17 times in a row and all the while making only the slightest of changes. I was in awe. And then he focused upon bouncing it up to bump the yardage marker again and again and again. This to me is the epitome of figuring out your own Golf Equation.

Much like the Game of golf, so was his practice. He made a game of it, always wanting to have fun with his clubs and the ball, he studied every shot both wondering and knowing he could do better. Moe really did devise the simplest and easiest swing in the world. I can personally testify to it as to this day I still use it, it’s the same swing I made when I was a kid. It amazes me that I can lay my clubs down for an inordinate amount of time, and pretty much upon command hit the golf ball right where I want to.

Recently after laying my clubs down for some 8 months I was able to pick up a club while wearing a shirt / tie and striped it about 265. All I really had to do was set up and swing, it felt good to do that and now I can’t wait to go out and do it again. I miss playing like I used to but that to will pick up in 2011 and become more of a priority.

I will keep everyone posted as to what my first score is as this will well attest to how effective Moe’s Swing and My swing really are. And yes I will give a full honest accounting of fairways and greens hit. So keep on the look out as one of my next few posts will reveal some info that will surprise everyone I am sure.

Until then…Hit em long and straight and as few times as possible.
Happy Golfing and have a Great Day

Many thanks to You tube and Craig Shankland for the use of this video. If you would like to find out more about Moe Norman, You Tube has a plethora of videos on him. I watch them, but only listen to the one’s where Moe is talking himself.
