PGA Championship – PGA Tour- Martin Kaymer

Dateline: Whistling Straits Country Club – Kohler, Wisconsin

CONGRATULATIONS MR. MARTIN KAYMER!!!

Our newest winner of the coveted PGA Championship. Having personally played Whistling Straits, I can honestly say that the course setup and conditions were absolutely the best I have ever seen.

Playing what seemed to be phenomenal golf this week, Kaymer proved that he is a force to reckoned with, especially coming out of nowhere like he did. At 25 years old Kaymer’s performance and record is stellar and unmatched.

He is no stranger to the winners circle either. 2 Amateur Wins and 15 Professional Wins including a Major! Not many can boast that record.

With today’s win at the PGA Championship and a slew of European Tour wins under his belt, he shows all the makings of not only a great player, but also that of the ultimate sneak attack in players. And oh how I love underdogs. He has all the inklings of Tom Kite, Bernhard Langer, and a quite few others who used to hover around the top ten. And that folks is how you become great. I am thinking look out world rankings everything is about to change and there is about to be a huge reshuffle.

Let’s look at Kaymer’s performance this week. First round even par, 2nd round 4 under par, 3rd round 5 under par, today’s round 2 under par. Like I said…sneak attack. Quiet consistent play that moves you up the leader board without even being seen or even considered for that fact. I love it. Well you can bet that everyone will be watching now. Martin, you can take the cloak off now, quit playing incognito and really go after it. You have done yourself proud. Those at the top can beware that you are headed towards top 10 in the world.

HEY ESPN, UPDATE YOUR CHARTS! Martin Kaymer plays in every Major and significant event there is this year, and excluding missing a few cuts he places no lower that 34th and you don’t even post his stats, bad move guys. What are they thinking? Give the man his due. With Kaymer’s win today he should vault into the top 25 at least, if not the top 20 and he already ranks #1 on the European order of Merit

Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson also both played stellar golf and for a few moments there it looked like we were going to have a good old fashioned shoot out. But as in Dustin’s case when you don’t fully clarify the rules with a committee member, you get what what you got. As for Bubba, you just got a few bad breaks that’s what I think. But I would still have hit my drop from near the fairway versus down below on 18. Ce La Vie, you did your best, got guaranteed exemptions to every major next year and earned a spot on Corey Pavin’s Ryder Cup Team. And both of you can coast for a bit now. Corey Pavin will be a good captain I am sure.

2010 has proven to be the year of the youngsters and flat bellies that’s for sure. Let us not forget that 6 of the last 7 majors have been won by first timers. With the majors now over for 2010, the focus can go back to regular play and the upcoming Q-schools for some. And the only thing I can really say is, the game of golf sure has changed since I was that age.

As for Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, they’ll be back, not sure as to when, but they will be back.

As for me, I am still looking at the underdogs of tomorrow. Why? because I feel a 58 or even a 57 coming down the pike here anytime now and it’s going to be a young gun that does it. And yes I do believe it will happen.

I am now just wondering when Mr. Kaymer will become a full member of the PGA Tour?

Until then and next week. Happy Golfing and Have a Great Day
